The Ohana home – Multi-Generational Homes
The concept of multiple generations of a family living under one roof is not a new idea. Especially here in Hawaii where often times extended families share a home together, in the past the situation usually was defined by cultural practices that are unique to our local Hawaiian values. In recent times a multi-generational living situation may have other motivating factors. In the end having a home that meets the different needs of all family members is the goal.
The Fujikawa family of Pearl City was going through a change in their family situation in multiple ways. A son had moved back into the family home with his two sons and a daughter recently married was also planned to move into the family home. The existing family home was three bedrooms and two baths single level dwelling.
Atlas Construction has had the pleasure recently to work with the Fujikawa family of Pearl City to design and build their new home. Now I say new home when technically it was an addition to an existing home. The addition being a two story six bedroom, two bathroom, two sitting rooms and a wet bar ended being double the size of the existing home. I almost forgot we also did extensive remodeling to the existing home also in the kitchen being totally redone and the living room also got a makeover.
